Men and women who have been experiencing complex medical conditions and co-occurring mental health disorders often find that the totality of their challenges prevents them from getting the help that they need.
The acute medical psychiatry unit is a 10-bed specialty unit which offers highly specialized inpatient care for patients with acute dual medical and psychiatric diagnoses and is dedicated to treating patients who cannot be admitted to a general psychiatric unit because of complex medical needs, such as telemetry, intravenous fluids, or oxygen supplementation, and likewise cannot receive optimal care on a standard medical unit because of psychiatric symptoms, such as suicide risk, psychosis, cognitive dysfunction, or delirium.

- Pneumonia
- COPD
- Encephalopathy
- Dementia with Behavioral Problems
- Poly-pharmacy
- Anxiety/Depression

Patient and Family Guidelines
Visitation: Visitation on this unit is on Tuesdays. Please note that visitors under the age of 18 are not permitted. Visitors are required to leave all of their personal items including cell phones and purses/bags in their car when visiting. No food or outside items are permitted during visiting hours. All visitors must follow the conditions of visitation posted at the hospital entrance.
Phone privileges: Phone times are 8:00 – 10:00 am every morning, and 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm every evening. A sign-up sheet for times will be provided each morning.
Snacks: Snack times are at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Two snacks and a drink will be provided as close to these times as possible.
Clothing and personal belongings: Patients will be permitted to wear their own clothing at the staff’s discretion until 9:00 pm daily. At that time a gown or paper scrubs will be provided for sleeping and personal clothing items will be secured in a locked cabinet. Three days of clothing may be kept on the unit. Please make arrangements to send dirty clothing home with family to be washed if possible.
For staff and patient safety; no drawstrings, belts, shoelaces, underwire bras, or jewelry will be permitted. ANYTHING not listed above or on the contraband list that staff considers to be unsafe will not be permitted on the unit and will be placed in a secure location until time of discharge.
Should a contraband item be overlooked upon admission or if a visitor brings in something that has been overlooked, it is your responsibility to notify staff so that we can properly store these items for you.
For the safety of our unit toiletry items such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc., will be provided to you.
Valuables: The hospital is not responsible for valuables if they are lost. We encourage valuables to be sent home when possible. Hospital security will secure select valuables in the hospital safe and return them to you at the time of discharge.
Treatment Plan: An individualized plan of care will be developed with you (and your guardian or spouse, if applicable) focusing on problems and strengths to maximize treatment and promote health. An assigned social worker will review the plan with you and request your input.
Medications: Medication given to you while here must be prescribed by the physician and dispensed by the nursing staff at the scheduled times. Medications may be given to you within an hour before or after the scheduled times (controlled substances or any as needed medications will not be given early). We encourage you to ask questions if you have them – you should know the name, the actions, and any potential side effects of the medicines you are given. Medication brought in at admission usually is returned to you at time of discharge but may be disposed of at your doctor’s discretion.
Conduct: You are expected to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner while in the hospital.
If your treatment plan includes attending group meetings on another unit you may make friends with other patients while in the hospital. We ask that you keep these relationships at a friendship level, as nothing needs to interfere with your current treatment. However, since this is a medical unit, all patients are required to stay in their assigned room to maintain the privacy and safety of all patients, and fraternizing with other patients, or walking the hallway while on this unit will not be permitted.
Environment: TrustPoint strives to provide surroundings that promote a caring environment and quality treatment. You are asked to keep your room tidy and to make your own bed if possible. Staff will assist you with making your bed if you are unable. Clean linens will be given in the morning after breakfast and are also available upon request. Please place dirty linens in the receptacle provided. Housekeeping will provide routine services such as cleaning your restroom and emptying your trash can.
Confidentiality: You will be given a 4-digit passcode at the time of your admission. This passcode is used to help maintain your confidentiality. Please share your passcode only with people you want to have information about you. Visitors will also need the passcode or will not be allowed to visit. Without it, we will not acknowledge you are a patient when they come or call. This code should be given to specific individuals who will be contacting you on the phone or visiting you while you are here. If you do not wish for anyone to know you are here, please inform staff upon admission.
